Working in association with Alberta Environment and Parks, CFGA contributed $10,000 to create the Kids Can Catch Trout Pond at the Bow Habitat Station – an interactive discovery centre, fish hatchery, interpretive wetlands site and trout pond for Alberta’s youth.
The Bow Habitat Station has developed into an integral school in the Calgary community, teaching our children about biology and the environment, while instilling an understanding of responsible fishing practices through a catch and release system. Children come to the Bow Habitat station to learn about fish, reptiles and insects and how each of these contribute to the complex ecosystem of the Bow River.
The Calgary Fish & Game Association has developed a fish identification book, “Exploring the Bow River: The Underwater World of Fish” with a vision to help children identify the fish that live within the Bow River.
The book displays Alberta’s nine sports fish that are present locally and will assist with a child’s curiosity to explore what lies below the surface of our rivers and lakes.
“Exploring the Bow River: The Underwater World of Fish” is available to youth groups and local communities with an interest in outdoor pursuits. For further information please contact: [email protected]
Funding for this booklet was provided by Cabela’s Canada Outdoor Fund.
