Below is a list of possible activities for 2025; please check this page regularly as it will be continually updated as more events are planned/confirmed.

January – June:
- Guest Speaker Events – quarterly at Members Meetings* – in person or online.
- Annual General Meeting – January 22, 2025, 7:05 pm, AHEIA Calgary office, members are required to RSVP.
- CFGA Archery Night, Archery World – January 29, May 6, 2025, 6:00 to 8:00 pm: join CFGA for a fun-filled family evening of Archery with other members!
- Big Game Measuring Day & Shed Hunt Scoring – January 31, 2025: Calgary Horseshoe Club, with Sarcee F&G.
- ODFGA Family Day – Kids Can Catch Ice Fishing Event, Chain Lakes Provincial Park – RESCHEDULED to March 1, 2025, 10 am to 2 pm: A family event! Volunteers will be on-hand to help teach new anglers the proper ways to bait a hook, where to drop a line, and what to do once a fish has been caught.
- Calgary Boat & Outdoor Show – February 21-23, 2025: booth (archery on-site) and the Kids’ Trout fishing Pond.
- Shed Hunting Fun Competition: wander the woods and bring home some antlers to be “scored” and win some prizes – Kids and open competitions.
- Women’s 1st Cross Country Skiing Event – March 15, 2025:Join us for a scenic cross-country ski adventure in the beautiful Kananaskis, along the Ribbon Trail.
- McKinnon Flats Spring Cleanup and Barbeque – 9:30 am, April 12, 2025: CFGA has developed a McKinnon Flats Stewardship Partnership agreement with Alberta Environment and Parks (‘AEP’). The spring event will consist of a clean-up of the area and a BBQ! Children welcome!

Women’s Outdoor Club: Shed Hunting Hike, Timber Ridge, Nanton – 11 am, April 13, 2025: join us for this outdoor hike where you will enjoy nature while searching for antlers!
- AACCA Easter Arms Show, Seven Chiefs Sportsplex & Chief Jim Starlight Center – April 18-19, 2025: booth, volunteers promote and sell CFGA memberships, banquet tickets and raffle tickets.
- Wild Game Dinner, Triwood Community Center – April 26, 2025: welcome cocktail party & appetizers, amazing wild game dishes, refreshments, auctions, raffles and awards presentations.
- WOC- Firearms Safety Course – May 21 & May 22, 2025: (6 spots) For the women looking to hunt this year. Firearm Safety Course will be taught over 2 evenings by Gerard Van Antwerpen. The hunters course will be encouraged to take on line.
- Bear Safety Course – Saturday, May 24, 2025: This comprehensive 5-6 hour course is designed to educate participants on effective strategies for preventing and managing dangerous wildlife encounters, with a focus on bear safety. It takes place in a forested setting to provide a realistic, hands-on experience.
- WOC Spring Hike, Blackshale Suspension Bridge via Black Prince Trail, – 11 am, May 25, 2025: join us for this outdoor hike and hope you find the outdoor experience inspiring!
- CFGA Casino, Elbow River Casino – May 29-30, 2025: looking for volunteers to assist with this major fundraiser. This event is the largest source of income that funds our club operations and numerous conservation projects.
- Alford Lake Family Camp & Jamboree – June 6-8, 2025: a great weekend of family fun! Camping (tents or trailers) or cabins, archery, shooting (.22, centerfire & shotgun), fishing, campfires, BBQ.
- Women’s Learn to Fly Fish – June 21, 2025, Private Ranch (30 minutes south of downtown Calgary): Join the Women’s Outdoor Club by the river for a fun and supportive inaugural Women’s Learn to Fly Fish event!
- Women’s Outdoor Club: Summer Hike – June 27, 2025: Join CFGA’s Women’s Outdoor Club for an exciting Summer Hike & Social! This event is a free opportunity for our members to get outside, connect with nature, and enjoy the
- “Pheasant Committee Work Bee, Pheasant Pens” – date/time TBD: committee members come together to do a Spring clean-up of the pens area and get ready for the arrival of the pheasants in July! Join this ‘legacy’ conservation programme.
July – December:
- WOC Forging and Cooking Workshop – July 5, 2025: guided foraging tour learning responsibly harvest wild mushrooms and edible plants. . After harvesting, a cookout, in Bragg Creek combining our foraged finds with complimentary ingredients to create a delicious dish.
- Back Country Emergency First Aid – July 19, 2025 (TBC): Hosted by Rocky Mountain Adventure Medicine, an 8 hour course hosted at in Bragg Creek Prov. Park
- “Meet the Pheasants” – July 2025: join with members of the Pheasant Committee to have your family tour the pheasant-raising facility and walk amongst the birds.
- Learn about Wing-Shooting – date/time TBD, virtual webinar: in this three-part webinar series will explore the roots of wingshooting, its evolution with the development of firearms, and the important role of hunting dogs. Alberta is home to many winged game species, so we’ll examine several upland species in depth to understand their life cycles and habitat needs
- WOC AHEIA Outdoor Program – August 6-10, 2025: This program is not only educational, but is an excellent way for women to come together and enjoy each other’s company at AHEIA’s beautiful Alford Lake facility. The days at OWP are jam packed with courses – from fly fishing to archery, quading, firearms basics to field dressing.
- Family Group Camp – August 2025, RV or tent camping weekend of outdoor family fun events!
- Hunter “Sight-in” Day – Target Shooting and ‘Turkey Shoots’ – date TBD: targets & fun ‘Turkey Shoots’ – hunting rifle benchrest (100-300 yards) targets & silhouettes (200-500 meters) plus .22 targets and silhouettes – at the world class ‘Rosebud Silhouette & Benchrest Club‘ west of Calgary.
- Women’s Outdoor Club Ladies Learn to Shoot – date TBD, Session 1: 10 am to 2 pm; Session 2: 1 pm to 5 pm, Silver Willow Sporting Club. This is a great opportunity for a fun day out and an enjoyable introduction to the exciting sport of clay shooting in a friendly and safe environment.
- Bird Hunting Tune-up: (AHEIA Dewinton range: fun Trapshoot & Skeetshoot (needs confirmation.)
- Pheasant Collection & Release Day – October, date TBD: join us to round up the pheasants, crate them up and take them to various sites to be released into the wild.
- Dog Training clinic: TBD.
- Hunting Techniques & Safety Clinic: – rifle, bow, shotgun tips & techniques and safety.
