When: 8 am to 5 pm, July 19th, 2025
Participants :20 people; 12 years and older
Where: Meet at McKinnon Flats ; Will meet in the overflow area parking Area

What to bring; Please bring your layers, rain gear, toque, sunscreen, bug spray, hat, hiking boots, rubber boots, or sturdy footwear, hiking poles, traction aids, etc. as we may be ‘Going off trail’ now and then and it can get slippery, wet and mucky at times of rain! As well; Water bottle, snacks/lunch, chair (if you like) , notebook and pen (optional) .
Come dressed for the weather as we go all day, rain or shine.
If you’re keen this is the first aid knot we use in the course.
And of course the hypothermia dance to practice!
I always include the list of the 10 Essentials for folks to think about but they are not required for the day!
The Ten Essentials
1. Knife or multitool– including a locking blade, corkscrew(?), saw, screwdriver, and tweezers.
2. Fire-making supplies – a lighter(inside pocket in plastic bag), fire starter (can be homemade), candle, piece of pitch wood, etc..
3. Whistle – one that is shrill, works in cold and wet conditions, and will penetrate upwind through a storm(fox 40 style)
4. Navigation aids – a quality compass and map of the area
5. Sun protection – sunblock, lip balm, sunglasses, and a hat
6. First aid kit – Complete and unexpired, sized for the adventure.
7. Emergency food and water – energy bars, dried fruit, filter for water, full water bottle or bladder.
8. Emergency clothing – synthetic fabrics (such as fleece) or wool, a toque, buff, mitts,etc..
9. Light – a headlamp or flashlight (make sure the batteries are working!)
10. Shelter – a Mylar blanket with paracord to attach to each corner
